Fans injured in railing collapse suing Snoop Dogg, Live Nation

Fourteen concertgoers and three event staffers injured when a railing collapsed at a Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa concert in Camden earlier this month are suing the performers and the event promoter, Live Nation.

Fourteen concertgoers and three event staffers injured when a railing collapsed at a Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa concert in Camden earlier this month are suing the performers and the event promoter, Live Nation.

The injuries included broken legs, torn ligaments, and concussions, according to the Center City law firm representing them, Saltz, Mongeluzzi, Barrett & Bendesky, PC. One security employee whom the railing collapsed onto has a fractured spine, the firm said at a news conference Wednesday morning.

Robert Mongeluzzi and other attorneys blamed the collapse on poor planning and overcrowding against the railing, which caused fans to plummet six to seven feet to a concrete pathway below.

"What happened here should have been prevented," said Andrew Duffy, a lawyer at Mongeluzzi's firm.

Duffy added, "The majority of the people fell head first, and that could have been absolutely catastrophic."

A total of 42 people were injured at the concert, which was halted when the accident happened shortly after 10 p.m. Aug. 5. Videos recorded by fans showed the railing collapse and concertgoers falling.

The suit, which is to be filed Wednesday in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas and does not specify a damage amount, alleges that Live Nation knew that the railings separating the lawn from the BB&T concert pavilion were not properly secured, and that mortar holding them was cracked.

The suit also points to videos that show Snoop Dogg telling fans in the lawn to come toward the railing. That, the suit alleges, led to overcrowding.

Live Nation declined to comment Wednesday, citing the pending litigation. Representatives for Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa did not return requests for comment.

After the railing collapse, a spokesman for the city of Camden, Vince Basara, said the venue did not have any outstanding violations and that all inspections were up to date.
