Shooter drill

at Merion Mercy

MERION Merion Mercy Academy will conduct its first emergency preparedness drill with Lower Merion police and local emergency responders on Friday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

"It is a sad reality that we must prepare ourselves and the girls in this way," said Sister Barbara Buckley, principal of the school on Montgomery Avenue.

This is the first drill of its kind - sometimes called an active shooter drill - at the all-girls school. Students, faculty, parents, and the school's neighbors have been notified.

Lower Merion spokesman Thomas Walsh said there would be a large police presence, "just like it would be if there was a real situation." - Kathy Boccella
