Philadelphia police have charged a 32-year-old man with opening fire with an assault rifle in a West Oak Lane recreation center on Jan. 6, wounding three people, authorities said yesterday.

Michael Taylor, who also is known as Michael Brazemore, of the 1800 block of West Godfrey Avenue in Ogontz, was charged with three counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment as well as violating the Uniformed Firearms Act.

Police said about 20 people were playing basketball inside the Simon Recreation Center at 7200 Woolston Ave. about 1 p.m. Jan. 6 when a man entered the gym and fired a black assault rifle into the crowd. Detectives from Northwest Detective Division developed information that led them to Taylor, who surrendered Tuesday. - Joseph A. Gambardello
