Woman, 28, is fatally shot in Southwest Philadelphia

Police were investigating the shooting death yesterday morning of a 28-year-old mother at the Bartram Village housing project in Southwest Philadelphia.

The woman, whom police did not immediately identify, was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where she was pronounced dead.

The woman was shot with a semiautomatic handgun about 11 a.m. in her third-floor apartment in the 5600 block of South 56th Street, Homicide Detective Thomas Gaul said. Neighbors said she had lived there with a young son. Gaul said he was not able to identify a suspect or a motive. - Tom Infield
