David Ortiz, 21, was killed in a two-car crash yesterday at the intersection of Roosevelt Boulevard and Rising Sun Avenue in the city's Olney section.

Police said it wasn't clear whether Ortiz was a pedestrian or the driver of one of the vehicles.

The accident happened shortly before 8:05 a.m. when a white Cadillac traveling on Rising Sun Avenue was broadsided by a blue Chevrolet Astro van heading down the boulevard, police said.

Ortiz was found lying on the highway, Philadelphia Police Sgt. Lawrence Ritchie said. He was pronounced dead at Albert Einstein Medical Center.

The driver of the Cadillac, who was the lone occupant, was treated for neck and back injuries at the hospital and released. Police withheld his name. The investigation continues.
