A 98-year-old man reported missing from his Philadelphia home this week was killed in a New York car crash.

Philadelphia police said this morning that Frank Winfrey died in the Tuesday crash in Roslyn Heights, Nassau County.

Police said Winfrey was last seen leaving his home on the 7100 block of North 19th Street in West Oak Lane to run errands at 2:30 p.m. Monday. He didn't return home, and was reported missing Tuesday.

Winfrey died after his Chevy Tahoe collided with a dump truck, which then swerved into a utility pole, Newsday reported.

The crash happened at about 5:40 a.m. Tuesday; Winfrey was pronounced dead at a hospital at 6:14 a.m., according to the newspaper. The truck driver and a passenger suffered minor injuries.

The endangered missing person alert for Winfrey said he suffered from dementia.
