8 charged in PSU cheerleader's fall from apartment window

Eight Penn State students have been charged with providing alcohol to minors after a cheerleader at the school was seriously injured when she fell from an apartment window.

Investigators determined that the students "furnished alcoholic beverages to minors who were attending a party" in a Calder Commons apartment on Oct. 13, State College police said.

At that party, 19-year-old Paige Raque fell from a fifth-floor window and was seriously hurt. Authorities determined that the freshman's fall was accidental, police said.

The students charged are 21-year-old Tempest Hourston, 21-year-old Megan Markovitz, 21-year-old Adaire Robinson, 20-year-old Alexandria Hipple, 20-year-old Brooke Piccione, 19-year-old Alyssa Duffy, 19-year-old Julie Hannan and 19-year-old Madeline Miller.

The furnishing alcohol beverages to a minor charge is a misdemeanor. The eight students will receive summonses, police said.

Last week, four Penn State cheerleaders were removed from the squad for violating unspecified team rules, though the university wouldn't say whether that discipline was related to the investigation into Raque's fall.
