Students vie to be commencement ‘Idol’

So you want to be a commencement singer?

Peirce College in Philadelphia is giving its students a chance, ala "American Idol" format.

Five students at the college, which largely enrolls working adults over the age of 25, auditioned on Wednesday before a panel of faculty and students to sing the National Anthem at the school's commencement on June 14 at the Kimmel Center.

The 10-plus minute video of their auditions to become the "Peirce Idol" has been posted on You Tube so that people can vote for their favorite.

The votes will be considered by the selection committee, which will announce their decision next Wednesday.

The contestants singing the "Star-Spangled Banner" include: Raymond Desheilds, a business administration major; Valerie Ives, business administration/human resource management; Anita Whitaker, business administration/accounting; Tangela Burnett/business administration/management; and Joshua Wise, information technology.
