Police: Girl, 3, killed by security door at Rita's Water Ice in Brewerytown

A 3-year-old girl was killed Saturday afternoon during an accident at a Rita's Water Ice in Brewerytown.

Police said it happened shortly after 4:30 p.m. at 2829 W. Girard Ave.

A security door suddenly detached and fell on the child, according to investigators. She was rushed to Hahnemann University Hospital, where she died shortly after 5 p.m.

The child's identity was not released, and additional details about the circumstances surrounding the incident were not immediately available.

Officials with the Department of Licenses and Inspections were on the scene investigating the incident.
