A man is recovering after being shot six times Friday afternoon in the Mill Creek section of West Philadelphia.

Police said three unknown men opened fire on the 49-year-old victim shortly after 2 p.m. on the 5000 block of Haverford Avenue.

The man was struck once in the shoulder and five times in the left leg, according to investigators.

He was rushed into surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was placed in stable condition.

The three suspects were last seen running south on Farson Street from Haverford Avenue, police said.

It wasn't immediately clear what led to the shooting. Police said no weapon was recovered, and no arrests had been reported Friday evening.
