Rain dampens Memorial Day celebrations

Rain put a damper Monday on Memorial Day celebrations, particularly for those wanting to spend time on the beach at the Shore.

Some parades also were postponed or canceled while other observances were moved indoors, including Ocean City's annual service.

Still, in other places, including the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia and Media, parades went ahead under granite skies.

Rain held off - and there were event hints of the sun - for the remembrance services at the Korean War and Vietnam Veterans memorials in Philadelphia.

Nearly 1.5 inches of rain fell in Philadelphia Sunday evening and early morning and more precipitation - sometimes heavy - was forecast for the remainder of Monday. The rain will clear out overnight, but expect fog Tuesday morning.

A dense fog advisory is in effect for boaters at the shore.
