A GUNMAN made off with six guns after a robbery and shooting at a Far Northeast gun shop last night, police said.

The armed man shot a 67-year-old patron in the groin and stole his firearms outside Delaware Valley Sports Center, on Geiger Road near Gantry in Bustleton, about 8:30 p.m., according to information from police.

The bandit - whom police radio reports indicated may have had a female accomplice - also robbed two people outside the shop, possibly stealing firearms from them as well, police said. In all, the man is believed to have stolen six guns before fleeing.

The man who was shot in the store was in critical condition at Aria Health's Torresdale hospital, police said.

Shortly after 9 p.m., officers had a car believed to be connected to the robbery and shooting stopped in the area of Schuylkill Avenue and Christian Street in South Philadelphia. Its occupants - a male driver and a female passenger - were questioned by investigators and later released after a witness from the initial robbery told police the two didn't match the descriptions of the robbers.
