Two wounded in double shooting in Kensington
The shooting was reportedly the latest violence spurred by a robbery in the city
TWO MEN WERE critically wounded in a double shooting early yesterday morning in Kensington.
The victims, ages 25 and 29, were on Frankford Avenue near Castor at 1:21 a.m. when both suffered gunshot wounds to the neck, police said. Both men were taken to Temple University Hospital, where they remained last night in critical condition.
According to news reports, the men were the victims of a robbery outside a Chinese takeout store and were shot after handing over $40. Officer Jillian Russell, police spokeswoman, said she could not confirm those reports.
If the motive of the shooting is determined to be robbery, it would be the latest in a string of violent holdups that remain unsolved. On Jan. 19, Amber Long, 26, was shot to death in front of her mother on Front Street near Poplar in Northern Liberties during a purse snatching. On Feb. 2, Melissa Thomas, 29, was killed and her friend was wounded when gunmen shot them during a robbery on 53rd and Market Streets in West Philadelphia.
