The West Chester Area School Board is now accepting applications, through Feb. 23, to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of board member Joseph P. Green Jr. Candidates must live in the school district, and must be registered voters.

In addition to submitting a resume and being interviewed, prospective board members must also hand in an essay covering "the critical issues the candidate believes the board faces in the 2008-2011 time frame, the skills and knowledge base the candidate believes he/she has to help address these issues, the thoughts the candidate has relative to how he/she would address the critical issues," according to a posting on the district website,

Applications must be submitted to Pauline Bachtle, School Board Secretary, West Chester Area School District, Spellman Administration Building, 829 Paoli Pike, West Chester by no noon on Feb. 23. Interviews will be conducted by the board prior to its monthly meeting, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Feb. 26.
