BRYN MAWR, Pa. - Bryn Mawr College president Nancy J. Vickers plans to retire in June 2008.

Vickers, who will have led the private women's school for 11 years by the time she steps down, made the announcement at the college's board meeting Friday.

She said she remains committed to completing a $225 million fund-raising campaign with a focus on increasing financial aid, increasing faculty salaries, and renovating campus facilities.

Vickers came to the suburban Philadelphia school from the University of Southern California, where she was a dean. She also taught French and Italian at Dartmouth College from 1973 to 1987.
