Philadelphia Citizens for Children and Youth, concerned about a surgeon general's report that tooth decay is the most common disease facing children, is sponsoring "Give A Kid A Smile Day," tomorrow and Saturday.

Jersey lawmaker eyes plan

for state to lease toll roads

New Jersey could get up to $15 billion by leasing toll roads to a private company that would increase tolls annually but give the state money to pay off debt and free cash for school construction, property tax relief and other needs, a state lawmaker said yesterday.

State Sen. Raymond Lesniak said he will introduce legislation to authorize the state to lease the New Jersey Turnpike, Garden State Parkway and the PNC Bank Arts Center, which is operated by the Turnpike Authority.

General Fund collections

top $2B for January

Pennsylvania collected $2.3 billion in General Fund revenue in January, which was $28.2 million, or 1.3 percent, more than anticipated, officials said.

Fiscal year-to-date General Fund collections total $13.7 billion, which is $95 million, or 0.7 percent, above estimates.

Sales tax receipts totaled $856 million for January, which was $11.9 million above estimates.

King Tut exhibition to open

at Franklin Institute Saturday

Nearly 130 ancient Egypt artifacts, including many from the tomb of Egyptian King Tutankhamun, will be on exhibit at the Franklin Institute from Saturday through Sept. 30.

Fifty antiquities excavated from Tutankhamun's tomb, ranging from his crown to a tiny coffin that contained his carefully embalmed liver, are on display.

Additionally, visitors will see almost 80 items from other rulers of the 18th Dynasty, from about 1540 B.C. to 1292 B.C. *
