Seven people had to flee three rowhouses in East Camden early yesterday after fire erupted in the kitchen area of one of them.

A 56-year-old woman was treated for smoke inhalation after the three-alarm blaze about 4 a.m. on North 22d Street. Officials did not identify her.

Camden Chief Fire Marshal Ralph Roberts said a quick response by 35 to 40 firefighters kept the blaze from spreading to an entire block of wood-frame rowhouses.

The fire started at 17 N. 22d St. and spread to the houses on either side, he said. The injured woman was in 19 N. 22d St.

The cause of the fire had not been determined, Roberts said. - Tom Infield
