Rendell taps York businessman as revenue secretary

HARRISBURG - Gov. Rendell yesterday named Revenue Secretary Gregory C. Fajt as his senior adviser and nominated a York businessman and top Democratic Party donor to replace Fajt as head of the Revenue Department.

Rendell's nomination of Tom Wolf, 58, to the $124,940-a-year post will require confirmation by the state Senate. Wolf, chairman of the board of the Wolf Organization Inc., a building-materials distributor, has contributed more than $262,000 to Rendell since 2002, according to state campaign-finance records.

Wolf holds a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College, a master of philosophy degree from the University of London, and a doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He served on a business-tax advisory commission that counseled Rendell on ways to create a fairer tax code.

Fajt, 52, will not receive a salary increase in his new job, which is to begin Feb. 15, Rendell spokeswoman Kate Philips said. Rendell also appointed Don Morabito as director of the Office of Public Liaison, which oversees the governor's nominations and appointments. Morabito, 64, has been executive director of the state Democratic Party since 2003. - AP
