Philly works the style blogs

FASHION AND CELEBRITY bloggers Lorenzo Marquez and Tom Fitzgerald define Philly style as art-school chic with a blue-collar edge. There are plenty of local blogs that prove their point.

FASHION AND CELEBRITY bloggers Lorenzo Marquez and Tom Fitzgerald define Philly style as art-school chic with a blue-collar edge.

There are plenty of local blogs that prove their point.

One example is our own Reuben "Big Rube" Harley, who runs the website Streetgazing (streetgazing.com) and whose photos of fashionably dressed regular folk run Fridays in the Daily News.

We've really been digging Urban Fieldnotes (urbanfieldnotes.com), the street-style blog run by Brent Luvaas, a visual and cultural anthropologist and assistant professor at Drexel University.

His intimate photos capture people of all stripes, from oldheads in crisp suits to punk rockers with pink hair to fly-looking ladies on the cutting edge.

Luvaas' blog is part of his research in a project called "Street Style 2.0: New Media and the New Politics of Fashion."

He wanted to study personal-style blogs, and he figured the best way to do it was to try it himself.

Don't worry, fashionistas, the blog doesn't get technical with academic mumbo-jumbo.

But it proves that Philly's style is more than Eagles sweatpants and Flyers jerseys.
