Before the Birds: Began as head coach at Missouri Southern (1967-68), then assistant coach at Drake (1969-72), Indiana (1973-76), Notre Dame (1977-83), in the USFL with Oklahoma (1984) and Jacksonville (1985), and in the NFL with St. Louis/Arizona (1986-93), Indianapolis (1994-97) and Seattle (1998).
As a player: Quarterback at Missouri (1959-62) and tight end for the AFL's Buffalo Bills for two seasons before a knee injury ended his career.
Personal: Married Vicky, his college sweetheart, at age 20; has two children, Scott and Michelle.
What might have been: Nearly ended up as a coordinator in Arizona or Carolina, before taking the Eagles' job in 1999.
Seeing stars: Eagles defenders have racked up 26 Pro Bowl selections in John-son's tenure. Brian Dawkins leads the way with seven. He's followed by Troy Vincent (five), Jeremiah Trotter (four), Hugh Douglas (three), Lito Sheppard (two), and Trent Cole, Michael Lewis, Asante Samuel, Corey Simon, Bobby Taylor (one each).
