It's not every day that a sports team owner guarantees a win.
But that's what Wings owner Russ Cline did during the team's 20-8 victory over the expansion New York Titans Saturday night at the Wachovia Center, guaranteeing a win in Friday's final home game. Cline said that if the Wings lose to Minnesota, each fan will receive one free ticket to any home game next season.
"We have the best lacrosse fans in the world right here in Philadelphia who deserve a winner every year,'' Cline said. "Our guarantee on Friday the 13th is a tribute to all Wings fans that cheer us on each week and expect a winner. We want every fan to leave the Wachovia Center feeling lucky with a Wings victory or a free ticket to any home game next year.''
Against the Titans, Athan Iannucci and Jake Bergey each scored six goals and Sean Greenhalgh, Keith Cromwell and Dan Marohl combined for 18 assists.
Robert Nilsson scored two power-play goals, lifting the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins over the visiting Phantoms, 3-2, on Saturday night.
John Slaney scored for the Phantoms along with Kyle Greentree, who recorded his first professional goal. Phantoms winger Claude Giroux registered an assist for his first professional point.
The Phantoms return home to host the Norfolk Admirals on Friday (7:05 p.m.). Their final home game is next Sunday against Hershey (5:05 p.m.).
The Kixx will be matched up against the Chicago Storm in the Major Indoor Soccer League semifinals.
The teams will meet Friday in Chicago, then Saturday at the Wachovia Spectrum (7:05 p.m.). If the teams split the first two games, an extra session will determine the team to advance to the finals.
In the other semifinal series, Milwaukee will play Detroit.
