We knew Dennis Reynolds would be back for the upcoming season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but not like this.

As a newly released trailer for the FXX sitcom's 13th season shows, Dennis will appear in the show, but in the form of a sex doll that Mac (Rob McElhenney) orders. It was still up in the air as to whether actor Glenn Howerton, would return to the show for it's 13th season. At the end of It's Always Sunny's 12th Season, Howerton's Dennis appeared to depart from the show — a plot development that coincided with the actor's start on AP Bio, an NBC comedy that also features Patton Oswalt.

Earlier this month the cast of It's Always Sunny, sans Howerton, spoke about the show's 13th season at the Television Critics Association's summer meetings, and confirmed that Dennis wouldn't be off the show. Now, it appears that they were technically telling the truth, though a rubber sex doll probably wasn't what most fans had in mind.

Either way, though, the show's upcoming season appears to be as strange as ever. Aside from making one of the Gang into a sex doll, this season also appears to show Mac in stellar shape, Dee mocking the #MeToo movement, Charlie dressing up like Seinfeld's Kramer, and Frank using hot glue and lemons as a brutal kind of first-aid.

The 13th season of It's Always Sunny premieres Sept. 5 on FXX.
