Sideshow: Johnny Depp: I always go outside

It was already there, as early as 1990's Edward Scissorhands: Johnny Depp likes to portray outsiders. Folks who don't fit classificatory pigeonholes. It's there in the cross-dress epic Ed Wood (1994) and in Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man (1995), which features Depp as a liminal being, a strange, beautiful creature skirting the line between cowboy and Indian, male and female, life and death.

It's a clear pattern. Depp's latest pic, The Lone Ranger, has him playing Tonto, American Indian sidekick to Armie Hammer's hero.

"If there's a pattern, it's, again, it's an exploration of the outside, or the outsider, or what's considered the outsider, or the underdog, or the damaged," Depp, 50, tells Charlie Rose in a chat set to air Monday on CBS This Morning. "Those are the things that I find interesting."

Baldwin's Twitter tweet-tweet

As they say on the Web, this is happening. Alec Baldwin and expectant mate Hilaria Thomas attended the funeral for James Gandolfini, who died at 51 on June 19. Then George Stark of Daily Mail Online wrote that Hilaria appeared to be tweeting happy-face messages during the obsequies, stuff about wedding presents and Rachael Ray and that. (She also tweeted: "The circle of life is unbelievable–birth, life, death. . . Please take care of yourselves as life is fragile. Rest in Peace Jimmy.")

To say Alec went ballistic is to say Mount St. Helens popped. Alec tweeted: "My wife and I attend a funeral to pay our respects to an old friend, some toxic Brit writes this [Germanic adjective] trash." Alec tweeted: "I'm gonna find you, George Stark, you toxic little queen, and I'm gonna [Germanic verb] you up." The Baldwin camp said that Stark had misread the time and date stamps on the tweets, and that Hilaria had left the service early, feeling unwell. Alec closed his Twitter account post-rant, and not for the first time. Maybe closing it pre-rant would be better?

Jay-Z: Will I be a good dad?

Rapper and Beyoncé husband Jay-Z has released video previews of two songs off his album Magna Carta Holy Grail. Both were inspired by  the duo's baby, Blue Ivy, and Jayz uses the vids to explore his anxiety about being a dad.

The first song, "Jay-Z Blue," is about "my pop who left when I was young, so he didn't teach me how to be a man, nor how to raise a child or treat a woman. So, of course, my karma, the two things I need, I don't have. And I have a daughter. It's the paranoia of not being a great dad."
