Sideshow: Meyers believed to have tried suicide

Tudors star Jonathan Rhys Meyers spent a night in a London hospital after a suspected suicide attempt, London's The Sun reports.

Tudors star Jonathan Rhys Meyers spent a night in a London hospital after a suspected suicide attempt, London's The Sun reports.

The tabloid says paramedics were called Tuesday night to Meyers' house, where he was found nearly unconscious after an apparent overdose of pills. The police were called to help after Meyers refused treatment for more than half an hour.

Meyers, 33, has had an ongoing battle with alcoholism, which has landed him in rehab three times since 2007.

He gave The Sun a terse "no reply" upon leaving the hospital on Wednesday.

Bleep! Open foot, insert mouth . . .

MSNBC has suspended political analyst Mark Halperin indefinitely after the distinguished Time editor-at-large, author, and pundit totally distinguished himself Thursday by describing President Obama with a four-letter word on Joe Scarborough's Morning Joe

.

Asked to assess the president's news conference on Wednesday, Halperin said, "I thought he was kind of a d-," referring to Obama's "posturing." Halperin expected the word to be bleeped out by the cable network. It wasn't.

He voiced an "absolute apology" later on the show: "I made a mistake, and I'm sorry and I shouldn't have said it. I apologize to the president and to the viewers."

Lennon? He was Bill O'Reilly's kinda guy

The entire baby boomer generation is in shock at the revelation (well, allegation) that "Let It Be" stoner-poet John Lennon was, deep in his heart, a Republican!

So says Fred Seaman, who was a personal assistant for the Liverpudlian New York transplant from '79 until his tragic death in '80. He makes his shattering claim in filmmaker Seth Swirsky's new doc, Beatles Stories.

According to Seaman, Lennon dug GOP hero Ronald Reagan and pooh-poohed Reagan's Democratic opponent, Jimmy Carter.

"[Lennon] was a very different person back in 1979 and '80 than he'd been when he wrote 'Imagine,' " says Seaman. The Fab Four cofounder, he asserts, enjoyed baiting radical lefties with "brutal arguments." Adds Seaman, "It was pretty obvious to me he had moved away from his earlier radicalism."

LiLo's first taste of freedom . . .

. . . a cig 'n' a soda pop.

An Unnamed Club-Hopper tells RadarOnline that upon being freed from house arrest Wednesday, convict Lindsay Lohan went straight to Hollywood party palace Lexington Social House. LiLo's assistant, always in tow, "handed her what looked to be sodas all night long," the witness says. LiLo chatted with pals "about silly things, like what the perfect height was for a girl." LiLo silly?! No way!

Mouseketeer to e-entrepreneur?

Justin Timberlake is taking his role in The Social Network as former Facebook vice-honcho Sean Parker to heart. The Hollywood Reporter says the "Cry Me a River" crooner and former Britney Spears wooer has a minority stake in MySpace, which was just bought by Specific Media for $35 mil. Justin vows he'll be "taking a lead role" in the restructured company. MySpace, he says, has a hot mission: It'll be "a place where fans can go to interact with their favorite" stars. Um, isn't that called Facebook

?

Celebrities and their jobs

Sex and the City's ageless sexpot Kim Cattrall, 54, will witticize on Broadway in Noel Coward's acid-edged-yet-sweet romantic comedy, Private Lives. The viciously endearing piece is about a divorced couple who end up in adjoining rooms while honeymooning with their new spouses. It'll preview at the Music Box Theatre beginning Nov. 6 and open on Nov. 17.

Crazy Heart star Jeff Bridges has gone totally crazy heart: The 61-year-old actor is releasing a rock album this summer. Bridges, who tried his hand at music fame four decades ago, previewed some of his tunes before a live crowd Tuesday night at Hollywood's Troubadour. "This is surreal, man," he told the crowd. "This is very rewind."

HBO has hired Emmy-winning scribe Adam Mazer (You Don't Know Jack) to write what will no doubt be a much-buzzed-about pilot based on Susanna Moore's sixth novel, The Big Girls, about the bond between a prisoner and her psychiatrist at a women's prison. (It'll be Oz crossed with Gossip Girls?)

The Widdleton Tour: An update

Prince William and Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, boarded a plane provided by the Royal Canadian Air Force at London's Heathrow Airport Thursday morning. By the time you read this, their feet will have interacted with North American soil for 12 to 18 hours.

Tidbits 'n' pieces

A Monaco palace rep has dismissed "ugly rumors" that Prince Albert's intended, Charlene Wittstock, 33, tried to call off their Friday wedding two days before the sacred event. "Only jealousy could push people to start such violent, such ugly rumors," Christiane Stahl told Monaco-Info. . . . The Michael Bay-Shia LaBeouf collaboration Transformers: Dark of the Moon will be huger: It cleared $38 mil at the box office in America on its first full day Wednesday, according to studio estimates. . . .
