On The Market: A rowhome full of possibilities in Wash West

On the Market profiles homes for sale in the Philadelphia region.

When Jason Austin and Sally Reynolds were house-hunting in 2009, they scoured rowhomes in neighborhoods from Queen Village to Fairmount.

"At least 70 throughout Philadelphia," Austin said.

They had their heart set on a place that could accommodate a ground-level design office when they found the perfect home on Pine Street.

"There was not a single property that came close to matching the quality and spaciousness of the living spaces, construction detailing, circulation flow between rooms, and natural daylight within the house," Austin said.

In addition to the daylight, Austin and Reynolds were attracted to the vibrant Wash West neighborhood.

"The Wash Square West neighborhood only gets better," Austin said.

The couple enjoys easy access to restaurants like Amis and Mercato and nearby shops and parks, he said. Since moving in, the city has installed a bike lane just outside their door.

The 2,100-square-foot, two-bedroom home includes two full en-suite baths and a powder room. Austin said its unique configuration gives the space a lot of flexibility, where owners can use extra living space as a study, a living room or a third bedroom depending on how they use the ground floor.

"The house can be set up in a number of ways," he said.

The ground level also includes a stainless steel and marble kitchen with access to a side garden.

Upstairs, the second-floor master suite includes a spa-like bathroom with a soaking tub. The bedroom on the third floor includes a large bath and features access to a private roof deck.

"It is like no other rowhouse in the city," Austin said. "The house is composed of a series of very distinctive rooms – no two rooms or spaces within the house feel the same."

Austin and Reynolds were surprised by a job re-location they couldn't turn down, so they have recently listed the home with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Fox & Roach's Suzanne Petruzel for $779,000.

"If it wasn't for this job opportunity, the house wouldn't be on the market," Austin said. "It's one of a kind!"
