While many people might choose to head south for a balmy retirement, William Clendaniel and George Grimes moved north and bought a condo in Philadelphia.

"We previously resided between the Gulf Coast of Florida and Paris," Clendaniel said.

He said the couple was attracted to Northern Liberties for the neighborhood as much as the specific home they purchased there in March 2015.

"Our experience in the neighborhood is that it's vibrant and has a good mix of diversity and age groups," Clendaniel said. "It's much like a walkable village within a major city, which was our experience while owning an apartment in Paris."

The 3,200-square-foot home includes four bedrooms, two full baths and a powder room. Clendaniel said the utility of the space helped convince them to buy.

"The home itself provided an abundance of both formal and informal living areas and outdoor space," Clendaniel said.

Built in 2010, the home did not require extensive renovation when the couple moved in, but they did make a few enhancements. Upgrades include custom window and closet treatments and new remote-controlled awnings over the three outdoor spaces.

"Most of the improvements done while living there were us for cosmetic and comfort reasons," Clendaniel said.

He said the unique layout of the home – along with the roof deck and two patios – are their favorite parts.

"It's truly a modern townhouse designed along old Philadelphia rowhouse floor plans," Clendaniel said.

After two years in Philadelphia, the couple is ready to officially retire.

"We have decided that it is now time to permanently retire to a warmer climate," he said.

The home is currently listed by The Somers Team for $675,000.
