Formation Inc. in Moorestown said today the Federal Aviation Administration has awarded the technology company a $5.7 million manufacturing contract aimed at helping to make flying safer.

Formation will design and develop a new data collector box that is a key element in the FAA's next-generation automated flight inspection system, the company said.

The FAA is developing the new flight inspection system, which includes on-board flight-check instrumentation, to replace equipment used since 1982.

"We are very pleased to be part of this initiative for the FAA," said R. Nim Evatt, Formation president and CEO. "This contract allows Formation to do what it does best - build complex electronics with precision and accuracy, quickly and cost-effectively."

Formation designs and manufactures hardware and software products and provides related engineering services for the defense, aviation, data communications and transportation industries.
