Pa. mushroom sales set record

Sales of Pennsylvania-grown mushrooms, not including specialty mushrooms such as shiitakes, reached a record high of $570.48 million in the year ended June 30, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service estimated Monday.

Pennsylvania's mushroom industry, centered in western Chester County, accounted for 52 percent of the U.S. total of $1.095 billion, the USDA said.

The value of Pennsylvania mushrooms climbed 2.9 percent, while the U.S. total fell 2 percent.
