A top official at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has been named to head the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.

Mark P. Compton, PennDot's deputy secretary of administration, will assume his new post as chief executive of the turnpike Feb. 1, following his approval Tuesday by the five-member commission.

Compton succeeds Roger Nutt, the father of Gov. Corbett's campaign manager and former chief of staff, Brian Nutt. The elder Nutt resigned in October after 19 months on the job. - Paul Nussbaum
