Northern Liberties is in line to get a boulangerie.

French-born and -raised Marc Basile and Claire Ogilvie, seeking a proper baguette close to home, are developing The Kettle Black (631 N. Second St.).

Basile says he was doing IT work for pharmaceutical companies when he decied to indulge his passion for baking on a commercial scale. Ogilvie has a barista management background. In addition to sourdough, they plan pastries, croissants, scones, and brioche, as well as sandwiches built on the bread. 

They're going for a minimalist but homey look.

They got the blessing of the Northern Liberties Neighbors Association and have a zoning hearing set for July 19.

They said they hope to be open by the end of this year.
