Halal Guys soft-opens at Chinatown Square food hall

Caviar will deliver the menu, including beef (gyro) and chicken platters and sandwiches; falafel platters and sandwiches; and baklava.

Chinatown Square, the long-awaited international food hall in the middle of Chinatown (1016 Race St.), begins its opening on Wednesday, Dec. 14.

Halal Guys, a franchised version of the cult Middle Eastern hit from New York City, will begin delivery service via Caviar.

No customers will be permitted inside; a date for walk-in service has not yet been set, though the grand opening has been planned for Dec. 28.

Caviar will deliver the menu, including  beef (gyro) and chicken platters and sandwiches; falafel platters and sandwiches; and baklava. Platters are priced at $7.99, sandwiches at $6.99, according to the menu.

Delivery hours will be 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Halal Guys broke into the Philly market in the fall with a location in King of Prussia under a different franchisee.

Chinatown Square's announced tenants include I CE NY (a Thai rolled ice cream shop also opening Dec. 28), Philly Poke (a specialist in the raw-fish dish called poke), Khmer Grill (selling Cambodian street food), Hi Kori (a Japanese street-fooder with a whiskey/sake/tea cocktail bar), and Dae Mun (a full-service Korean restaurant on the second floor in the front window, serving soondubu (soft tofu), tableside BBQ, traditional entrees, and apps served with banchan (side dishes).

Besides Halal Guys and I CE NY, which will occupy the front section, the other stands are expected to open in mid-January.
