We had a lovely phone chat with Eleanor Sokoloff earlier today. The Curtis Institute of Music piano professor was sitting in the kitchen of her modest summer home in Maine, talking about the cool temperatures and blue skies. "I'm so lucky to be enjoying this day." she said.

And so she is. Among other pleasures of the day - dinner with friends (soft-shell crabs) - she's marking 102 years today.

Sokoloff will spend the rest of the summer in Maine, and then head back to work at Curtis - where she has taught since 1936.
