Travis Konecny returning to Flyers' lineup, 'Ghost' sits again

After being benched the last two games, rookie left winger Travis Konecny will return to the lineup Monday night against visiting St. Louis.

Winger Matt Read will be a healthy scratch. Ditto second-year defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere, who will sit for the third straight game.

"It's tough because a guy has to come out and they're playing good," Konecny said after Monday's morning skate in Voorhees, "but I'm obviously happy I'm in the lineup and hopefully I can learn from what happened and have a good game tonight."

By observing from the press box the last two games, Konecny said "the little details of the game are so crucial. You watch some of the best players in the NHL, and when they don't have a good play, they just make a safe play. It's not all about making something out of nothing every time. Sometimes, you just have to move on and get off the ice and let the next line go after it."

Konecny, 19, said "it's not always the best to throw the puck where it shouldn't be going. Sometimes, it's just better to just chip it in deep and then just get off."

Said coach Dave Hakstol: "I'm not really looking for what he's learned. I'm just looking for what he can add to the lineup. Like I said the other day, both young guys that have been out, yes, they have things to learn and things to work on. But they're also a huge part of what we've done and what we're doing. Obviously, he (Konecny) adds an element offensively; adds an element of tenacity. He'll be a good addition to the lineup tonight."

Konecny has seven goals and 22 points in 50 games.

Breakaways. Goalie Michal Neuvirth will make his third straight start…..The Flyers are 4-1-1 in their last four games……Hakstol: "This is a real heavy team we're playing against tonight. The game against L.A. on Saturday was a heavy, hard two-way game. It's going to be much the same tonight, so we have to make sure we're ready to do that and have the same patience in our game." The Flyers lost to the Kings, 1-0, in overtime.
