Eagles sign former Soul defensive end Jake Metz

The Eagles signed Philadelphia Soul defensive end Jake Metz on Tuesday, giving the Arena Football League standout a chance to play in the NFL on Thursday against the New York Jets.

Metz, 25, is 6-foot-6 and weighs 265 pounds and played college football at Shippensburg and high school football at Souderton. He grew up rooting for the Eagles and joined the Soul in 2015. He led the Soul with eight sacks on its run to the Arena championship.

The Eagles also named former linebacker Shawn Barber the recipient of the Nunn-Wooten scouting fellowship. Barber replaces Brian Dawkins, who was hired full-time by the team earlier this month.
