About 5,000 members of Transportation Workers United Local 234 are on strike after failing to reach an agreement with SEPTA on a new contract.

Subways, buses and trolleyes have come to a standstill in the city. Suburban buses and trolleys will continue to run. Regional Rail is notaffected. The last strike, in 2009, lasted six days. A strike in 1998 lasted 40 days.
