Report: Archbishop Carroll grad Jones invited to NBA dunk contest

Former Archbishop Carroll standout Derrick Jones Jr. hasn't seen much NBA action this season, but he might be on the league's center stage for All-Star Weekend.

Jones is considering taking part in the 2017 NBA Slam Dunk Contest on Feb. 18 in New Orleans, according to ESPN's Chris Haynes.

Jones was one of the top high school players in the country during his time at Carroll before spending one season at UNLV. He wasn't selected in last June's NBA draft and has played two games for the Phoenix Suns this season.

The Suns tweeted a video of Jones dunking before Tuesday night's game against the Timberwolves, a clip that displays the kind of athleticism he would bring to the dunk contest.

Haynes reported that Orlando forward Aaron Gordon also will take part in the dunk contest. Haynes tweeted that Timberwolves guard Zach Lavine, who has won the past two dunk contests, and Celtics forward Jaylen Brown will not participate.
