Haile Mengesha wins 2015 Broad Street Run

29-year-old Haile Mengesha of New York, NY. won the 36th annual 10 Miler with an unofficial time of 47:53. Averaging a 4:47 minute per mile pace, Mengesha beat out Jarouad El Jazouli by a little less than a minute.

This morning, over 40,000 runners took to the streets as part of the 2015 Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run.

29-year-old Haile Mengesha from Ethiopa won the 36th annual 10 Miler with an unofficial time of 47:53. Averaging a 4:47 minute per mile pace, Mengesha beat out runner Jarouad El Jazouli by a little less than a minute.

Tigist Jabore also from Ethiopa was the first woman to cross the finish line with an unofficial time of 53:34. Askale Merachi finished second and Meseret Taye came in third.

A fixture at the Broad Street Run for over 10 years, Tony Nogueria wins the wheelchair competition with a time of 38 minutes.

At 8 a.m., runners took off at Broad Street and W. Fisher Avenue, near the Einstein Medical Center. Volunteers showed up as early as 5 a.m. to get ready for the race.

In 2014, Mourad Marofit of Morocco won the 35th annual race with an official time of 47:06.
