The knives fly at the Food Bank of South Jersey

The Food Bank of South Jersey raised $25,000 at its third annual Hunger Games fundraiser at its Pennsauken headquarters.

The Food Bank of South Jersey held its third annual Hunger Games fundraiser at its Pennsauken headquarters on April 30. Culinary teams from seven corporations, including Subaru, Susquehanna Bank, and Panera Bread, competed in the cook-off.

The event raised $25,000 for the food bank's children's programs (doubling its 2014 results).

Bill Anderson (Fox Weekend), Glenn Schwartz (NBC 10), and Tammy Paolino (Courier Post columnist/editor) judged the event. Teams had to use ingredients that the food bank typically distributes through its pantries.

About 150 attended, also doubling last year's numbers.

The team from Subaru won, with help from mentor and food blogger, Linda Arceo (Giggles, Gobbles, and Gulps). The winning dish was a veggie black bean and rice burger topped with a fried egg and avocado, massaged spinach side salad and a canned pineapple, strawberry and banana Greek yogurt smoothie.
