High Street on Hudson among Food & Wine’s 10 best restaurants in America

In New York City, Ellen Yin and Eli Kulp’s High Street on Hudson is already making quite an impression.

In New York City, Ellen Yin and Eli Kulp's High Street on Hudson is already making quite an impression.

The restaurant was this week included on Food & Wine's "2016 Restaurants of the Year" list. Serving as Yin and Kulp's first High Street venture outside of Philadelphia, the restaurant opened in December 2015 in Manhattan's West Village.

Praising High Street on Hudson's morning-through-evening service schedule, Food & Wine describes the restaurant's menu as an "incredible around-the-clock array of dishes." Specific favorites mentioned are High Street's Hickory Town breakfast sandwich, the duck-meatball sandwich, and honey-glazed chicken.

Culinary creations from baker Alex Bois and pastry chef Samantha Kincaid were also focal points in Food & Wine's selection. This continues the thread of recognition the High Street crew has received from the magazine, with Kincaid having been named a Best New Pastry Chef back in 2014 — the same year the magazine recognized Kulp as a Best New Chef.

Earlier this year, the New York Post's Steve Cuozzo described High Street on Hudson the "year's best new restaurant." New York Magazine's Grub Street, meanwhile, named the restaurant's roast pork sandwich the city's best sandwich overall.

Also making Food & Wine's Best Restaurants list was Shaya, an Israeli restaurant in New Orleans whose chef-owner, Alon Shaya, is a graduate of Harriton High School in Bryn Mawr.
