Lady Gaga begins the week with a standing ovation - as the singer premiered the music video for her new single "Applause" early Monday on Good Morning America.
The pop star returns from her hip injury with a new song and music video that naturally reflect her usual avant-garde, envelope-pushing persona. Gaga is seen in several risqué ensembles throughout the clip, from a black bodysuit to a barely-there outfit with large seashell pasties.
The "Bad Romance" singer also dons the colorful face paint illustrated on the cover art for the single. The song is the leading track from her upcoming album POPART, which will be released on Tuesday, November 11.
Gaga will perform "Applause" live for the first time at this year's MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, August 25.
"Applause" has been battling head-to-head with Katy Perry's "Roar" for the top single's spot for the past week. The latter's track is projected to ferociously snag the number one spot with an estimated 525,000 - 550,000 downloads in its first week, according to Billboard.
Outside of the ongoing chart battle, Gaga is currently feuding with pop culture blogger Perez Hilton. Gaga accuses Hilton of stalking her New York home, as well as making rude digs at her new song. The drama unfolded on Twitter Sunday, with Gaga tweeting: "STAY AWAY FROM ME + MY FAMILY YOU ARE SICK TRYING TO RENT AN APARTMENT IN MY BUILDING TO STALK ME. LEAVE ME ALONE!!!"
