Philadelphian Steven E. de Souza made his name in Hollywood with screenplays for 48 Hrs., Die Hard, Commando and many more big-budget hits. But when he was just trying to launch his film career back in 1972, he made a little 16mm pot-com called Arnold's Wrecking Co., starring Mike Renshaw, who would later become a reporter for the Bucks County Courier Times.
Dubbed the "dopiest" comedy of all time, this winner of the Special Jury Prize at the 1972 Atlanta Film Festival (what were they smokin'?) has been largely unseen for more than four decades. In honor of the 4/20 National Marijuana Holiday, however, Arnold's will have its small-screen premiere at 7:20 p.m. (4:20 Pacific time) on shoutfactorytvlive.com and on Pluto TV, CH 515.
Starring Renshaw, de Souza and Eddie Henderson, Arnold's Wrecking Co. tells the tale of a student who tries pot for the first time, loves it and decides to distribute it, much to the aggravation of the police and the mafia.
