Shootings throughout city leave six wounded in 6-hour span

At least six men were wounded in a spate of shootings throughout the city during a six-hour span from Sunday night to early Monday.

At least six men were wounded in a spate of shootings throughout the city during a six-hour span from Sunday night to early Monday.

In the first, an 18-year-old man told police he got off the Market-Frankford Line at Berks Street with a friend around 6:30 p.m. and walked to Marshall Street near Montgomery Avenue in North Philly's Ludlow section, where two unknown men approached them. One pulled a gun and shot the 18-year-old behind his right ear before stealing $30 cash from him, police said.

The gunman and his accomplice then fled on Marshall Street toward Berks. The man who was wounded was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital in stable condition, police said.

Police did not have a detailed description of the shooter or his accomplice.

About a half-hour later, two men were wounded during a drive-by shooting on Cecil B. Moore Avenue near 28th Street, police said. In that shooting, police said one victim, a 36-year-old man, left his house on 28th Street and walked half a block to Cecil B. Moore Avenue, where someone in a small, dark vehicle opened fire on him, wounding him once in the lower leg. A good Samaritan drove him to Temple University Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Police said a 37-year-old man was also shot in the left hand and left leg during that shooting, poilce said. Officers took him to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he was also in stable condition.

No arrests have been made in the drive-by shooting, police said, and investigators have not yet determined a motive.

Just before 9 p.m., two 18-year-old men were standing outside a Chinese takeout restaurant at 22nd Street and Lehigh Avenue in Swampoodle when a gunman wielding a rifle approached them and shot at them twice, according to police. One of the men was wounded in his arm and was treated at Temple University Hospital and released, but the second man was wounded in the chest, police said. That victim remained at Temple University Hospital in critical but stable condition on Monday.

Police said the victims described the gunman as black, in his teens and about 120 pounds. He wore a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and had a red bandanna over his face. Police did not say what motivated the shooting.

A 28-year-old man remained hospitalized in critical condition Monday after he was shot in the stomach in the city's Frankford section shortly after midnight. Officers were called to the intersection of Griscom and Arrott streets at 12:25 a.m. and found the victim lying on the ground unconscious suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach, according to police. He was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition and rushed into surgery.

Police reported no suspects or motive in that shooting.
