A man allegedly armed with a butcher knife was fatally shot by a security guard at a cell phone store Tuesday afternoon in North Philadelphia, police said.

Just after 12:30 p.m., the man ran behind the counter of the store in the 2700 block on North Broad Street and was shot in the chest by the guard, police said.

Police rushed the man to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:36 p.m. Police did not provide further details.
