More jail for attempted rape
A man serving 71 years for armed robbery was given added time for attacking his lawyer.
A Philadelphia man already serving a lengthy prison term for armed robbery was sentenced yesterday to 300 months for the assault and attempted rape of his own defense attorney in a federal building interview room.
Kareem Millhouse, 31, was ordered by U.S. District Judge Cynthia M. Rufe to serve 180 months concurrently with his existing 71-year federal sentence on various robbery charges. He also was sentenced to 120 months to be served after the original sentence.
On July 7, 2006, Millhouse and his lawyer were at the William J. Green Federal Building in Center City to discuss the possibility of his cooperating with the government. At that time, the robbery charges, including bank robbery, were still pending against Millhouse.
Before their meeting with federal authorities, Millhouse and his attorney were given a few moments to speak privately in an interview room, according to information from the U.S. Attorney's Office in New Jersey, which handled the prosecution.
Once alone, Millhouse leaned toward his lawyer and told her that he would cut her throat if she screamed, and then showed her a razor blade.
Millhouse, federal prosecutors said, went on to tell the woman that he had not had sex in a long time and wanted to have it with her, and he also wanted her to be able to "leave alive."
Millhouse then lunged at her, and she screamed and tried to run from him. He grabbed her and threw her over a table, but several law-enforcement officials heard the screams and rushed into the room to subdue him.
Millhouse was convicted on the robbery charges in April, according to information from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Philadelphia. On Nov. 15, Rufe convicted Millhouse on charges of attempted sexual abuse, assault, attempted escape and weapon possession in a federal facility, all from the attack on his lawyer.
