North Penn’s Grace Sacchetti scored the game-winning goal with less than 30 seconds left to give the Knights an 11-10 win over Methacton in the first round of the District 1 Class 3A girls’ lacrosse playoffs on Tuesday. No. 18 North Penn will play No. 2 Garnet Valley, which had a first-round bye, on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.


Villa Maria beat Villa Joseph Marie, 19-4, in the first round of the District 1 Class 2A playoffs. Bridget Finley had six points with three goals and three assists. Margie Carden had a five-point game with three goals and two assists. Sarah Delaney and Hannah Young also had hat tricks. The top-seeded Hurricanes will host No. 8 Mount St. Joseph on Thursday.


Shipley won the Friends Schools League title by beating Germantown Friends, 15-13. The Gators outscored the Tigers 10-5 in the second half to finish the season undefeated in the Friends Schools League. Shipley senior goalkeeper Grace Donnelly made 18 saves. Grace Gordon scored a season-high six goals. Katie Scutt scored twice and won six draw controls.


Archbishop Wood beat St. Hubert, 12-10, in the first round of the Catholic League playoffs. Haley Lawyer led the Vikings with four goals. Lindsay Faul, Martha Meister and Annie Whalen each scored twice. Lizzie Velten had a double-digit save performance. Payton Pugh had a hat trick for St. Hubert. Wood will play top-seeded Archbishop Carroll in the semifinals on Wednesday.


Penn Charter beat the Episcopal Academy, 6-5, handing the Churchwomen their first loss of the year. Kaylee Dyer led the Quakers with two goals. Penn Charter goalkeeper Hayley Hunt made 13 saves.


In other Inter-Ac action, Germantown Academy beat Springside Chestnut Hill, 13-4. Olivia Doody scored a team-high four goals for the Patriots. Cassidy Palazzo scored three goals and had four draw controls.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Upper Dublin beat West Chester Henderson, 11-8, in the first round of the District 1 Class 3A playoffs. Lucas Roselli scored a team-high five goals for the Cardinals. Jayden Santangelo had a hat trick. Goalkeeper Sam Hoffman made nine saves for Upper Dublin. The Cardinals will play West Chester East on the road in the next round.

Central Bucks East held Unionville scoreless in the second and third quarters of its 8-4 first-round win. Liam Rosenthal made 12 saves for the Patriots. Ryan Stout scored a team-high three goals, and Ryan Carroll scored twice. Central Bucks East will play Radnor on the road in the second round on Thursday night.


The Episcopal Academy beat Germantown Academy, 10-8, in the first round of the Inter-Ac Tournament. Nick Bates scored a team-high three goals for the Churchmen. Charlie Cunniffe had two goals and three assists. Jack Henderson scored a goal and won 12 of the 20 faceoffs he took.

The Episcopal Academy will play No. 2 Malvern Prep in the semifinals on Friday at 5 p.m. at Cabrini College. No. 4 Penn Charter will play No. 1 Haverford School at 7 p.m. The Quakers beat Springside Chestnut Hill, 9-4, to advance.

Boys’ Tennis

Masterman lost, 3-2, to Moravian Academy in the first round of the state Class 2A team tournament. Moravian Academy won both doubles matches and Deepak Shankar won the third flight singles’ match, 6-1, 6-3, over Masterman’s Manas Narnula. Jon Nottingham won the top singles match, 6-1, 6-1 for Masterman. Moravian Academy will face Conrad Weiser in the quarterfinals on Friday at the Hershey Racquet Club.

Lower Moreland lost to Pequea Valley, 3-2, in the first round. Pequea Valley won all three singles matches. Lower Moreland’s David Sherbakov and Josh Patent won their match in three sets, including a 10-6 third set. Pequea Valley will face Quaker Valley in the quarterfinals.


Unionville beat Cedar Crest, 5-0, in the Class 3A team tournament first round. Tristan Bradley beat Dylan Tull, 6-2, 6-4, in the first singles match. Victor Li beat Garrett Muraika, 6-0, 6-0, in the third singles match. Clay Horowitz and Andrew Poprik and Kevin Liao and Parik Radhakrishnan combined to lose just three games in doubles. Unionville will face Shady Side Academy in the quarterfinals on Friday at the Hershey Racquet Club.

Radnor beat Hershey, 3-2. Max Safanov beat Andreas Wingert in a third-set tiebreak in the top singles match for the Raiders. Alex Weiss won the third singles match, 6-1, 7-5, in the third singles match. Ethan Lee and Luigi Giacomucci won the second doubles match for the Raiders’ third point. Radnor will face Cathedral Prep in the next round.

Conestoga beat Liberty, 4-0, to advance to face Fox Chapel. Peter Auslander beat David Lynn, 6-3, 6-2, in the second singles match. Sam Weintraub and Henry Danon beat Anthony Ronca and Wyatt Marshall, 6-4, 6-0, in the top doubles match.

Great Valley beat La Salle, 5-0. Great Valley didn’t drop a set in any of its matches. Sameer Gangoli beat Dan Porreca, 6-0, 6-0, in the top singles flight. Ryan Hamel beat Owen DeAngelis, 6-0, 6-1. In doubles, Marc Lucifer and Warrick Parvess won their match, 6-2, 6-2. Steve Coehlo and Adit Awatramani won their match, 6-4, 7-5. Great Valley will face Dallastown in the quarterfinals.


Kennett beat Villa Maria, 4-0, on the road. Winning pitcher Genevieve Ebaugh struck out 12 batters in seven innings and allowed just two hits and two walks. Ebaugh also went 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Villa Maria’s Alyssa Viscardo recorded her 500th career strikeout.


Radnor beat Marple Newtown, 15-5, in five innings in a Central League matchup. Winning pitcher Tess Massaro went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Audrey Rosenblum had two hits, two walks and three stolen bases. Lilah Demmy went 3-for-3 with three RBIs.


Ridley beat Conestoga, 7-1, in a Central League matchup. Winning pitcher Ethan Pecko struck out eight and didn’t allow a run over five innings. Pecko also had an RBI. TJ McNeely and Trent Pierce each had an RBI for Ridley.


Andrew Yates’ sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning brought home the winning run in Strath Haven’s 3-2 win over Harriton. Yates had two RBIs for the Panthers. Chris Felder went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and a run scored for Strath Haven. Ryan Orlov drove in both of Harriton’s runs.


Neumann-Goretti beat the Haverford School, 4-3. Devon Koger hit a homer for the Saints. Winning pitcher Conor Cook had a triple and two RBIs. Joe Bonini hit a two-run homer to tie the game at two in the third inning for the Haverford School.

Boys’ Volleyball

La Salle beat Archbishop Ryan, 3-0, to earn the top seed in the Catholic League playoffs. The Explorers finished 10-0 in Catholic League play for the second consecutive year. La Salle will host the semifinals on Saturday at 11 a.m.


Central beat Kensington, 3-0, in the Public League Class 3A Semifinals. The Lancers will face Northeast, which beat Washington, 3-1, in the final on Thursday at home.
