Aaron Rodgers was hard to find in ‘Game of Thrones’ cameo

Last week’s episode of Game of Thrones featured a misplaced Starbucks cup. This week’s had Aaron Rodgers.
The Green Bay Packers quarterback made a cameo appearance in the second-to-last episode of Game of Thrones, which aired Sunday night on HBO (like most people, my colleague Ellen Gray had some thoughts about the episode).
Rodgers briefly appeared as a resident of Kings Landing who attempted to find cover during Daenerys Targaryen’s dragon-led siege of the city. But despite the attention drawn by the Super Bowl champ’s cameo, his actual appearance in last night’s episode has proven hard to find.
Lorenzo Antonucci Jr., an actor cast as an extra in Sunday night’s episode, wrote on Instagram that his character was killed attempting to survive the attack with Rodgers. The two are briefly seen as Arya Stark (played by Maisie Williams) attempts to make it out of Kings Landing alive.
The outfit of the Flea Bottom denizen seen behind Antonucci Jr. appears to match a costume Rodgers wore in an Instagram post he shared about the cameo Sunday night.
“I was helping a woman, who was injured ... then the hell with her, I’m getting out of there,” Rodgers said during a behind-the-scenes feature discussing his role.
“It was just for a few seconds, but I’ll always be thankful to have been on the penultimate episode of @gameofthrones,” Rodgers wrote.
Fans were seeing the two-time MVP all over the place. Some thought it was Rodgers that was charbroiled during Daenerys’ attack on Kings Landing.
Others, including former NFL punter Pat McAfee, thought Rodgers also appeared as a foot soldier in the Golden Company.
Rodgers had teased his appearance for weeks with the #episode5shouldbegood hashtag, and was coy in a 2018 interview on the Dan Patrick Show about whether he’d appear on the show.
The show has featured a number of notable cameos over the years, including singer Ed Sheeran, country music star Chris Stapleton, and New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney appeared ever-so-briefly in the Season Eight premiere as an Ironborn soldier who was shot through the eye with an arrow.
