It’s December, and the NFC East race is tight. There was no doubt Monday night’s Eagles-Redskins game was going to be an interesting one.

But I don’t think anyone expected Mark Sanchez to play a role.

The Eagles beat the Redskins 28-13 to move to 6-6 on the season, setting up what should be an exciting playoff push.

Monday marked the first game Darren Sproles was active since he injured his hamstring in practice following the Sept. 6 season opener.

He ended up scoring his first touchdown since 2016 when he ran it in during the second quarter.

But before that, the Monday Night Football crew caught the ire of Eagles fans on social media when Jason Witten wasted no time in bringing up Santa Claus.

Must you chase after such low-hanging fruit, Jason?

But it was easy to forget all that after watching Golden Tate score his first touchdown as a Philadelphia Eagle.

He also hit the turf for an ... interesting ... touchdown celebration. You’re showing your age a bit with that one, Golden.

One fan had a good theory on Tate’s “worm.”

The Redskins were putting all their faith Colt McCoy, who was making just his second start since 2015. Understandably, people were nervous.

It didn’t take long for McCoy to exit with an injury, and it ended up being much more severe than anyone expected.

You know what that meant: it’s time for the Sanchize.

Yes, former Jets, Eagles, Broncos and Cowboys quarterback Mark Sanchez was pushed into service for the Redskins.

Sanchez signed with Washington before Thanksgiving after starter Alex Smith went down.

And on his first series of the game, things didn’t go so bad for the Redskins. They looked pretty good, in fact.

Adrian Peterson ran for 90 yards and a score. It was a career best for him, and the longest rushing touchdown in Washington history. And the Redskins were lucky to see things weren’t going so badly. They didn’t have a lot of options left over.

Overall, it was a big night for people who had lots of big nights about a decade ago.

The Eagles took care of a Redskins team hampered by injuries. Might this team be turning it around right in time for a playoff push?
