The Eagles are adding former Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Matt Burke to their coaching staff in an advisory role, according to a league source.

ESPN first reported the news.

Burke, 42, has a long history with Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. He was Schwartz’s linebackers coach in Detroit and was a defensive assistant in Tennessee with Schwartz. He’s also worked for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Burke led the Dolphins' defense in 2017 and 2018. The Dolphins ranked No. 29 in team defense and No. 27 in scoring defense last season. They were No. 16 in team defense and No. 29 in scoring defense in 2017. The Dolphins fired coach Adam Gase after the season, prompting changes on the staff.

The Eagles have not yet announced the addition. They have made three other unannounced coaching changes this offseason with the departures of wide receivers coach Gunter Brewer, defensive line coach Chris Wilson, and assistant offensive line coach Eugene Chung. They have not filled those positions.
