Assembly speaker reacts to Pernetti's ouster

TRENTON, N.J. - Political leaders in New Jersey are reacting to the resignation of Rutgers University's athletic director Tim Pernetti.

Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver is calling on Rutgers to release an outside investigator's 50-page report into fired men's basketball coach Mike Rice's conduct.

The Democratic leader says the university needs to become more transparent. The speaker also says Rutgers President Robert Barchi must explain why he decided to fine and suspend Rice after word of the fiery coach's verbal and physical assaults on players surfaced months ago.

Rice was fired this week after a video of the coach's behavior was shown on ESPN.

Athletic Director Tim Pernetti resigned on Friday.

Oliver called Pernetti's departure "a step in the right direction."

Senate President Stephen Sweeney called Pernetti's decision sad but necessary.
