NJ to start removal of Parkway stoplights

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Motorists will soon be able to travel the length of the Garden State Parkway without stopping.

New Jersey Turnpike Authority officials plan to break ground Monday on a construction project to remove the Parkway's only three traffic lights, which are in Cape May County. The $110 million project will also build bridges to carry the Parkway over local streets at Interchanges 9, 10 and 11.

Officials hope the project will reduce congestion along that stretch of the 172-mile Parkway, and improve traffic safety in the area.
